EPTDA and its members jointly donated a sum of €17,000 for its annual charity to Pequeño Valiente(“the Little Brave One”), during their Grand Finale Dinner. EPTDA would like to recognize and extend a special thanks to the following members, who each made a very significant contribution.
President of Pequeño Valiente attended the EPTDA Annual Grand Finale Dinner and addressed the delegates, “We are so grateful to everyone at EPTDA who have opened up their hearts to make this significant donation to our cause. Fighting cancer is painful, and it is even more daunting for families living on an island to find suitable accommodation and other logistical support to travel to seek proper treatment for their children. The EPTDA Donation will be dedicated to refurbishing and updating a new accommodation facility in Gran Canaria to house the cancer-affected children while they get treatment.”
Pequeño Valiente was founded in 2006 by a group of parents on the Canary Islands, whose children are affected by cancer. The charity aims to provide families and children who have the disease all the necessary support in the best possible conditions, trying to improve the quality of life throughout the disease.
The charity’s prime goals are:
- Disseminate the existence of childhood cancer in society.
- Support and social attention.
- Human and moral support.
- Support and psychological attention.
- Facilitate the child’s educational integration (for example through information to teachers).
- Timely information to the families and partners of the association of the activities organized by Little Brave.
- To have the necessary facilities to avoid expenses of stay in the parents with children of long hospital admissions, that reside in other islands belonging to the province of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
- Facilities improvements
- Provide financial aid.
- Help families on trips outside the islands.
- Strengthen and improve children’s health care.
In 2016, Pequeño Valiente received special recognition for all their work and was awarded the Canary Prizes in the Altruistic and Solidarity Actions modality delivered by the Canary Islands Government. In 2019, the charity also received the Once Solidarity Award, for decisively contributing to improving the quality of life of children with cancer and their families, developing numerous projects in collaboration with the Onco-Hematology units of the Canary Islands hospitals.
